Meet Shifu Shirley Chock, also known as The Stressbender. She is the Owner and Executive Director of Aiping Tai Chi. Shirley has trained under the guidance of Grandmaster Aiping Cheng since 2001 — and was appointed as the school’s assistant director before taking over ownership in 2017. She has led the Aiping Tai Chi competition team to multiple grand championships in national and international competitions, including winning the 2006 U.S. Wushu Union Women’s National Champion title.
Shirley is a certified Health Qigong instructor under the Chinese Health Qigong Association and International Health Qigong Federation, having earned the top score at the 2019 U.S. Health Qigong exams. She also studied wushu kung fu and mixed martial arts earlier in her life before transitioning to internal martial arts.
Previously, she earned an economics degree from the University of Chicago and had a successful career in finance and administration leadership roles prior to taking over Aiping Tai Chi. After helping to launch Sothebys.com, Shirley became the controller of Heavy.com at the remarkably young age of 25. Later, she served as the Manager of Financial Reporting and Analysis at Yale University, ultimately earning the title of Director of Finance Training and Development (a position created for her to train Yale’s elite financial analysts).
As a busy working mother, Shirley discovered the power of Tai Chi training in managing stress and using Tai Chi’s martial arts philosophies to navigate conflict situations. Her experience and success in implementing Tai Chi techniques into modern life has made her a leader in the field. She was the Founding Co-Chair of Asian Network at Yale, an affinity group for Yale’s over 2,000 Asian heritage employees, and named Working Mother of the Year by Working Mother Magazine and Yale University in 2012 for this work.
Shirley is a certified corporate wellness specialist and launched Aiping Tai Chi’s wellness programs, which offer effective stress management techniques to improve productivity and overall quality of life. She is also a content creator, becoming the first Twitch.tv affiliate to stream internal martial arts content. She grew the Aiping Tai Chi YouTube channel to partner status, making @aipingtaichi one of the fastest growing internal arts channels on both Instagram and TikTok.
With her wealth of knowledge and experience, Shifu Shirley Chock is the perfect guide to help you achieve your goals.
